Looking for Love Along Policeman’s Creek

Late this morning we went looking for GC3AZEY The Love Cache along Policeman’s Creek in Canmore. According to the geocache description, The Love Cache is a heart-shaped metal tin, large enough that it should be findable even in winter.

Fortunately, the creek was frozen solid. As a result, we were able to search both creek banks, as well as several small hummocks in the creek bed, without any concern that we’d end up with wet feet. Unfortunately, after a good half hour of searching, we failed to find love on Policeman’s Creek and decided to abandon the hunt.

Our consolation prize? As another lady walking along the trail said to Mrs. GeoK, the conditions were “a photographer’s dream.” Here are some of our best shots…

After Mrs. GeoK startled the sunning Mallard duck, he slipped into the creek and paddled away into the sunlight - bringing both his distinctive green head colouring and blue speculum wing patch into full view.

PS – We still needed to find a geocache to obliterate another blank on our “Finds for Each Day of the Year” grid, so we drove out of town a short distance along Spray Lakes Road to search for GC37KAV – Whose Chair is This? Heavy tree cover meant our GPS receiver suffered from signal bounce, but after a longer-than-we-would-have-liked search, Mrs. GeoK finally spotted the large bison tube and we earned our smiley for the day. Only four more days we need to find geocache this year, and then 15 more in 2013 to fully complete our grid. Here’s hoping tomorrow’s hunt is a little easier!
