Photo Blogging Challenge – Jingle All the Way (December 2019)

There’s so much jingle-jangle during the holiday season: Salvation Army Santas at donation boxes, Christmas music streaming from the speakers in every store, the tiny bells attached to holiday socks/earrings/ugly sweaters, and my nerves after a long-day of shopping or too much holiday hostessing! No wonder PBC host PJ assigned Jingle All the Way for this month’s theme. 🙂

1. Sleigh Bells

What do Lake Louise and Prince’s Island Park have in common? They are the two places I’ve heard sleigh bells ring on horse-drawn sleighs. I called on those memories to imagine the sound of sleigh bells while photographing this horse-drawn Lego sleigh in the snow!

2. Jingle Juice

We opted for a bit of a fiesta theme for everyone-come-to-our-house-for-family-dinner on Christmas Eve. The slushy pomegranate margaritas were a hit!

3. Christmas Carolers

Christmas music is one of my favourite things about this time of year. And I’ve been singing in community choirs long enough to have memorized the harmony part for all three verses of Jingle Bells. This year, the last Cool Choir performance before winter break was on November 30th – outside the date bounds for the December PBC – so I set up two Lego carolers instead.

4. Ring, Christmas Bells

Sunset backlight transformed a simple acrylic tree ornament – one inherited from my maternal grandmother.

5. Bell-Shaped Bokeh

The first challenge in making this image? Cutting a bell shape into the middle of a sheet of black card stock. The second? Stubbornly using a trial and error approach to creating bell-shaped bokeh – despite the fact the bell shape I cut was probably too large. After many error attempts (note Lego Santa’s grumpy face), I finally produced something acceptable.

Some kind of alarm bell is jingling to alert me that I’ve reached my limit of 5 photos for the month! To see what everyone else came up with, look for the link-up on a ‘lil Hoohaa. And please be sure to leave a comment to let me know what makes you jingle this time of year (photos welcome).

Remember, you’re always welcome to join this photo blogging challenge! Consider it a low-stress photo assignment – a regular prompt to hone your camera skills. For each month’s theme, you’re asked to share five photos snapped with your choice of camera. The amount of accompanying text is up to you. The next theme will be posted at a ‘lil Hoohaa in early January.

  1. Lake Louise – one of the gorgeous Banff spots. If the fog is gone, that is.
Love your LEGO stagings. I think I saw some more on FB or Insta?
    Happy new year!
PS: “Your” team won the Spengler Cup once again. Congrats!
