New year, new decade(?) and new adventures all come together in this month’s installment of the Photo Blogging Challenge. Between New Year’s Eve fireworks, checking out the Banff/Lake Louise Snow Days, a visit to Contemporary Calgary’s new home, a vacation including new-to-us National and State parks and other activities, there were plenty of photos to choose from:
1. New Formula
A silver lining of the deep freeze that gripped all of Alberta for about 10 days this month? Perfect conditions for #bubblemadness!! I went out three different times and particularly like this one, lit up with the golden light of sunset.
2. New Lego
This detail from the Corner Garage (set 10264) includes a new-to-me use of 8-stud-wide vehicle windshields: oriented vertically to create a bay window! The completed Corner Garage is part of the Lego town we’ve been adding to over the past 10+ years and the sets continue to get more elaborate, with more creative uses of Lego bricks.
3. New Snow
New snow is beautiful, but deep new snow makes walking a chore (if you pack your snowshoes when you leave home). Breaking snow for over an hour meant we slept well that night!
4. New Vantage Point
We’ve been walking/cycling across the Engine Bridge in Canmore for years, but it wasn’t until this month that we tried to find a new vantage point for photographing this landmark – down from the pathway, along the edge of the Bow River. This perspective makes Mount Rundle the backdrop.
5. New Vacation Destination
Our January vacation took us to Death Valley National Park and Valley of Fire State Park (Nevada) – both new-to-us. Mr. GeoK (middle of frame) provides a sense of scale for the landscape of the White Domes trail in Valley of Fire.

That ice bubble looks awesome! You could probably do a post on how you did that! Your photos for the challenge are always so good to the theme. I also agree on breaking snow and what it’s like. Even worse to me as I don’t do snow shoes well and if I am doing it, it’s with just boots on!
