This post is for the Photo Blogging Challenge, May 2021 edition. This month’s theme is one most of us easily relate to. After more than a year of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, most of us have at least a few coping mechanisms: daily walks, binge watching, cleaning and organizing, drinking and other forms of distraction to make it through each day.
1. Start Me Up
Mr. GeoK knows that nothing better come between me and my first cup of coffee! The coffee machine almost always makes two eyes in the crema. It’s when I add the half-and-half that I have the opportunity to make a smiley face 🙂 a frowny face 🙁 or a “not sure what day it is” kind of face, this this one.
2. Fill to Here
I a bit wrote about our 9-pod Aerogarden last month. Now that we’re well into the harvest phase of the first round of planting, the herbs are drinking up vast quantities of water. I have to add a couple of liters (quarts) of water every three days. Looking at all the tangled roots in there, it’s easy to see why.
We top our Neapolitan-style pizzas with basil every Sunday night, enjoy a couple of pots of fresh mint tea each week and snip a mix of fresh herbs into omelettes on Tuesday mornings. Once this crop is exhausted, we’ll replant with fresh basil, mint, thyme and chives and we’ll opt for sage and rosemary over parsley and dill (which I’ve been giving away to anyone who will take some).
3. Tea a Plen-tea
After my second cup of coffee, I switch over to tea for the rest of the day. A daily cup of turmeric-based tea is mandatory. Beyond that, I like variety and so does K, who’s been back “home” and attending online university since spring of 2020. We almost always reach a quick agreement on what to steep in the big pot for the “tea of the day.” As summer approaches, we’ll start steeping some of the fruitier blends for unsweetened iced tea. What’s your favourite blend of tea?
4. Lego Teapot and Tea Cup
Although the Lego teapot (piece 23986) was first introduced in 2016, I don’t remember coming across it before this month. It’s in the compact kitchen/living room area of the house next door to Birch Books, the two buildings in the Lego Bookshop set 10270. Thanks to Mr. GeoK for a birthday gift that’s so in-keeping with my love of books and tea (and Lego)! 😉
5. In Liquid Form, If You Please!
Flocks of male American Robins showed up early in April. One day, several of them hung about our yard for about an hour, flitting from tree to deck to deck railing. I got some decent photos through the triple pane windows including this one. It seems to me that Mr. Grumpy Robin is thinking about how he’d prefer his H2O in liquid form, please!

I bought an Aerogarden after seeing yours last month. In just under two weeks, some of the stuff has already outgrown their domes. I have been drinking a Trader Joe’s Turmeric/Ginger blend when I get home from work; I’m trying to keep joints working.
Did you get the herb pods for your Aerogarden? Or some other selection? I’ve now got plain plugs to plant with my own seeds once this first crop has reached the end of its life.
Allow me a moment but… coffee. I can’t handle it — the smell, the taste etc. But goodness… there are so many ways to make it look so good in photos! As for tea.. I’m with you. I love tea. I like fruitier flavors, but I go back and forth from loose tea and tea bags … and I sometimes go to the unsweetened tea in the summer as well!
The robin wanting liquid instead of snow…love that. And all the tea spelling T-E-A:clever. I love fresh basil on my pizza. We do pizza every Friday (if not Saturday) night. Legos are cute, never had them. However have stepped on them before at a friend’s house. And today my favorite picture you have going is your cup of java…. it almost looks like Yoda…. hey May the Froth be with you.

Hot tea leads off my post this month since I’m not a coffee drinker. Love the smell though! I love the thought of creating an herb garden. I used to have mint, but it got completely out of control in the “contained” bed where it was planted. Logos have come a long way, haven’t they? Cute scene. Spring is here and Mom Nature seems to think we all need to drink up her liquid that she pours from the sky now!
I agree, the reasons the birds return from the South is to enjoy spring – which also applies to the rest of us, right?
