About

Welcome!

We spend a lot of time outdoors. Out and About with the GeoKs (JEE-oh-kays) describes the best (and worst) of our hiking, biking, snowshoeing, geocaching and other adventures (mostly) in the Canadian Rockies. Mrs. GeoK does the writing and everyone in the family contributes photos.

Planning an adventure in the Canadian Rockies?

If you’re planning a trip to our part of the world, we hope our stories and photographs will help you choose from among the many activities and trails on offer in and around Calgary, Kananaskis, Canmore, Banff and Yoho.

In deciding whether our experiences are relevant to your trip planning, you should know that we generally avoid pay-to-play experiences. Also, we like hot showers, good food and comfortable beds, so our Canadian Rockies adventures are almost exclusively day trips.

Planning a hiking/outdoor adventure trip elsewhere?

We’ve traveled a fair bit, so Out and About with the GeoKs also recounts our geocaching, hiking and other adventures in the Bahamas, Iceland, New Zealand, England and another dozen or so countries (many on a trip around the world in 21 days).

Are museums, art galleries and urban adventures more your thing?

We bike and walk (extensively) in Calgary and Canmore. Our entire family is into photography. Since joining the Beakerhead photo crew in 2013, Mrs. GeoK has explored art galleries, museums and other Calgary attractions; many of those explorations turned into blog posts. So if urban adventures are your thing, posts in the Creative Calgary or Creative Canmore/Banff categories will be most relevant.

I’d you’d like to know where we go next time we’re out and about, please subscribe or follow us on Twitter.

Comments? Questions?

Comments are always welcome. In fact, reader comments often lead us to discover other interesting blogs or to plan a new adventure.

If you prefer email, geoks at shaw dot ca should get through.

Mrs. GeoK advocates for outdoor and other adventures on Instagram.

Would love to meet you on a trail someday soon. Thanks for visiting!

  1. Hello- I run a website called Great Runs (www.greatruns.com), which is a guide on the best places to run in destinations worldwide. We are currently working on the Banff/Lake Louise/Cranmore area, and I was hoping for permission to use one of your photos of the Three Sisters Pathway — with attribution, of course. Many thanks!

  2. Hi GeoKs, my name is Stefano, I leave in Sydney, Australia. I love photography and adventures and I’ve just found your blog. Keep up the great work and feel free to chek out my blog. It would be amazing hearing (well reading) your thoughts! 🙂

    1. Hi Stefano, and thanks for your positive feedback. Always great to meet others working hard at their craft and with the purpose of inspiring others to get out and about. Have visited/subscribed to your blog and look forward to reading past and future posts! 🙂

  3. Hi – My name is Jeff Clark, I run a small map-making firm on the west coast of BC. I’ve recently published a trip planning map/guide for Banff, Yoho & Kootenay National Parks. At 1:250,000 scale, it’s an excellent resource that provides the “big picture” for folks planning a trip to the Rockies and I think your readership would appreciate hearing about it. You can get an idea about the map by visiting my website (www.clarkgeomatics.ca). I’d love to send you a copy so you can see it for yourself – if you send your mailing address, I’ll forward a complimentary copy for your review.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Cheers,
