Yahoo! The Photo Blogging Challenge is 10 years old this month. I am so grateful that geocaching connected me to host PJ Harmer’s A ‘lil HooHaa blog more than a decade ago.
Why? I’ve been blogging since 2018. Like most things in life, my energy and interest in blogging has ebbed and flowed over the years. In fact, I produced just one blog post several months over the past ten years. Having a theme and a PBC “publish” deadline kept the baseline habit going. Which made it easier to ramp up the pace when I had more to share with the world.
So thanks, PJ. And thanks also to the small and steadfast community of bloggers who take part every month. I feel I’ve come to know each of you – at least a little – over the years. I’ve watched from afar as your kids/grandkids have grown up, you’ve moved from one phase of life to another, have celebrated joys and handled the hardships that come with living. Here’s to as many more years as PJ is willing to keep this going. 🙂
And now, it’s time for my five photographs representing this month’s theme…
1. 10/10 Hike
Mid-month we headed out on a new-to-us winter hike that took us past many frozen waterfalls. This beauty was our end objective and turnaround point. The two of us enjoyed about half an hour here, ducking in and out from behind the wall of ice, taking photographs and marveling at the yellow, green and turquoise coloured icicles. A half-day winter hike, with minimal elevation change and suitable for families, retirees and every able-bodied person in between scores 10/10 in our books! 2. ConTENt After a Delicious Meal Out
After more than three years of cooking supper after supper, I decided it’s time to return to restaurant dining on occasion. Mr GeoK readily agreed. This month we chose our day and time carefully, based on when Google Maps showed “less busy” than usual, and headed out for a late lunch. Mr. GeoK opted for fish and chips and I ordered the butter chicken. Both dishes were beautifully prepared and served, delicious and filling. Most wonderful? I didn’t have to cook it and Mr GeoK didn’t have to do the clean-up. We look forward to dining out once a month or so going forward, starting with a late lunch with friends visiting from out-of-town next week.
3. -10C to 10C
March. In our part of the world, it’s the time of year when temperatures can change 20 degrees C (or more) over the course of day. Day time highs are well above freezing, with overnight lows well below. This picture perfectly captures the -10C/10C 24-hour temperature range.
4. $10K
The last weekend in March, we waved “bye bye” to the vehicle our kids grew up with, learned to drive in, etc. Our youngest, in particular, grew quiet and a little sad as it rolled down the driveway and onto the street with a stranger at the wheel.
We bought a replacement vehicle in 2017. But we held on to this one so the “kids” had an occasional vehicle to drive and we had a back up vehicle “just in case.” But we’ve just added an electric vehicle to our family fleet, so it was time to make room in the garage. Our beloved, well-maintained 2007 MDX with 195,000 km went for $10K, less than 24-hours after listing on FB Marketplace. Yes, the used-car market is still going strong after years of supply chain disruptions thanks to COVID.
5. InTENse
I tried to chase this coyote from our backyard several times over the course of two days early in March. But it just looked at me, sometimes with great ferocity and intensity. So I gave up chasing it off and took down our backyard birdfeeder instead. More details here.
