Photo Blogging Challenge – Outdoor Activities (May 2018)

Calgary and area went directly from winter to summer this month. We took full advantage. Some days we worked outside, gardening, sealing the driveway, repairing the garage floor, repairing and painting deck railings or draining, repairing and refilling the hot tub. But we also made plenty of time for outdoor enjoyment, by cycling, walking, bird-watching and geocaching.

Photo Blogging Challenge – Simple (February 2018)

You’d think making five photographs for this month’s theme would be straightforward. Plain, uncomplicated images should be simple to create. Instead, this month’s challenge turned into an extended lesson on a basic tenet of composition:  keep working the scene until your framing leaves out anything extraneous. This meant trying multiple angles, heights and distances before finally pressing the shutter button. It also prompted me to turn away from majestic mountain landscapes and search out singular details of nature.

Photo Blogging Challenge – Lego (January 2018)

The Lego theme is an easy one for the GeoKs! We’ve been adult fans of Lego (AFOLs) ever since Mr. GeoK spotted the pneumatic crane set 8460-1 a in a toy shop window in France in 1995. After carefully breaking down the box to lie flat in his pack and fitting the sealed bags of bricks in among his clothes, Mr. GeoK packed that set around Europe for a few weeks before we flew back to Canada and it was the set that started it all….
