Biking in Canmore

June floods caused extensive damage to many of hiking trails in the Bow Valley, Kananaskis and Banff National Park. Parks personnel and volunteers are working hard to re-open trails. We’ve put our names in the queue to help with trail repairs in the Highwood Pass area and hope we’ll have the opportunity to lend a hand.

In the meantime, we’ve shifted our focus for the first half of the summer of 2013 from hiking to biking – a mix of paved, hard-pack and single track trails in and around Canmore. We tend to try new trails as we come across them while riding, but if you’re interested in doing a little up-front research before heading out on two wheels, we recommend the following resources:

We haven’t ridden every trail included on the above-listed maps and resources, but here’s a look at some of the scenery along the trails we have ridden in Canmore this summer:

Riverside Trail

Powerline Trail

Single Track – Various

Millenium Skills Park

There are still lots more trails we’d like to explore, including everything on the Silvertip side of town, the Canmore Nordic Centre MTB trails and the Highline Trail. We’re thinking we need more practice before tackling the blacks at the Nordic Centre and the Highline Trail, but hope to explore at least a couple more new-to-us bike trails before summer comes to an end.
